Dedication & Founders Message

Dedicated, inspired and made possible by all of the courageous women in history who paved the path for us.

To Amelia Earhart for recognizing her intelligence, using her tenacity and freeing her wild spirit which took her on the first Female piloted solo flight across the Atlantic. Amelia said "The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life and the procedure. The process is its own reward."

To Alice Paul for fighting for women's rights, leading the National Women's Party and helping to get the 19th amendment passed. For having the courage to go on a hunger strike, getting imprisoned for civil disobedience a fateful meeting with a male psychologist in 1917 when the Wilson administration asked him to declare her insane. Instead, he said "Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity."

Rebel's Creator and Founder, Erin Colbrese

Hi and welcome to Rebels Who Write!

I am excited to invite you into the group of Rebels. Women who have or are planning an escape from checking off the list and following the script. Like Amelia, Alice and SO many other inspiring women through history, we are clear about who we are and we know we are here for more.

RWW was born out of my own decades long daily habit of writing: for expression, for healing, for processing what is going on inside of me and around me. My parents both have their masters in English (Mom was journalism, Dad was literature) so I grew up with a great reverence for the power of prose and the authors who bared their souls for our betterment.

I chose the word "Rebels" because I recently threw out the script that I was given as a young woman that told me how to live in order to be accepted, loved and a member of an elite tribe. As silly as it sounds, it is an act of rebellion to say that you are choosing a different path than you were told to follow. We swim upstream, we take the less traveled path, and our imaginations and therefore our lives are richer for it.

My goal now is fulfillment through connection, community and making the world a better place for women.

You are here to make a great impact on the world and we can do more together.

I hope you find inspiration, community, support and healing here.

- Erin

Rebel's Co-founder & resident PhD, Kim Hoover

Kim Hoover is a yogi poet philosopher at heart. She has been passionate about writing since she was very young, and she is currently composing her first book, Goddesses in the Government. She earned her PhD in 2021 at the University of Pittsburgh, composing a dissertation on the lack of diverse and accessible Integrative Medicine in the US. After graduating, she was hired into leadership positions in Oregon state government healthcare to serve the Medicaid population in safety net clinics and the carceral system. With gratitude for valuable experience from the trenches of the healthcare administration, she has recently left the state government to pursue her dream of writing and teaching yoga full time! Her interest in popular and academic Feminist debates, goddess mythology, and her own lived experience of women in leadership roles inspired the theme of her book, which refracts ancient goddess archetypes onto the collective feminine psyche(s) of women in the US today. Kim has also taught yoga for over ten years, and currently teaches at Yoga Shala Bend. She believes that life itself, however fleeting, is poetic and longing to be captured. Especially through the eyes of a yogini.
